Gerico Security - ISO 14001

The ISO 14001 standard is a fundamental tool for organizations aiming to effectively manage their environmental impact and contribute to a more sustainable future. By implementing an environmental management system in compliance with the reference standard, businesses can gain numerous competitive advantages and enhance their reputation.

What is ISO 14001?

ISO 14001 is a technical standard from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) focused on environmental management systems (EMS). It defines the requirements for an environmental management system within any organization. This standard is part of the broader ISO 14000 series, developed by ISO/TC 207 (Technical Committee 207). ISO 14001 can be used for certification, self-declaration, or simply as a guideline for establishing, implementing, and improving an environmental management system.

The 2015 edition of ISO 14001, which is the third edition, is explicitly based on the PDCA model (Plan-Do-Check-Act), also known as the Deming Cycle, named after its creator, William Edwards Deming.

In February 2024, the amendment ISO 14001:2015/Amd 1:2024 “AMENDMENT 1: Climate action changes” was published. This amendment introduces new requirements in sections 4.1 and 4.2 related to context analysis, specifying that organizations must determine whether climate change is a relevant issue for them and if stakeholders have climate-related requirements. This change has an implicit impact on the entire standard, as the context analysis must be considered to meet other standard requirements, particularly for risk and opportunity analysis (6.1) and environmental aspects.

Our Approach to

14001

GERICO conducts an initial analysis of the existing situation and a framework for potential adaptation/integration to ensure legal and regulatory compliance with ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management System (EMS). Any existing activities already conducted under other management systems will be leveraged, optimized, and integrated into the Environmental System. Therefore, the relevant documentation will be produced as follows:

  • Results of the analysis
  • Definition of the Management System
  • Analysis of the organizational structure, with potential proposals for changes
  • Proposals for training initiatives for key organizational roles

The subsequent phases to achieve the goal are:

  • Risk and Context Evaluation
  • Development of the Management System documentation
  • Implementation of the Management System, including the implementation of all produced documentation

In addition, GERICO provides all necessary organizational adjustments to ensure compliance with the applicable standards. GERICO identifies and plans all necessary training initiatives, both for the entire organization to raise awareness and for key figures who actively participate in the Management System process.

GERICO remains available with its project team to support the client throughout all stages of the third-party certification for ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 compliance and manages, if requested, relations with the certifying bodies.
