Gerico Security - ISO 45001

The ISO 45001 standard is a fundamental tool for any organization seeking to ensure a safe and healthy work environment. The implementation of an Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OH&SMS) compliant with this standard enables organizations to improve employees’ quality of life, reduce costs, and enhance their competitiveness.

What is ISO 45001?

ISO 45001,”Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems – Requirements and Guidance for Use,” is an international standard that specifies the requirements and guidelines for occupational health and safety management systems. It aims to make workplaces safer and healthier, prevent workplace injuries and health problems, and proactively improve Occupational Health and Safety (OHS). This standard is applicable to any organization, regardless of size, type, or activity, that wishes to implement, maintain, and monitor a system to enhance health and safety, eliminate or reduce risks (including system deficiencies), and leverage opportunities to achieve the desired outcomes from the management system.

Key Principles

ISO 45001 is based on the following seven fundamental principles:

  1. Focus on the user: The organization must understand and meet both current and future customers’ needs.
  2. Leadership: Leaders must set the direction, engage people, and unify the organization’s goals.
  3. Engagement of people: People at all levels are the driving force of the organization, and their full engagement enables them to contribute to its success.
  4. Process approach: A desired outcome is achieved more efficiently when activities and resources are managed as a process.
  5. Continuous improvement: The organization must be committed to continuously improving its performance.
  6. Evidence-based decision making: Decisions must be based on the analysis of data and information.
  7. Managing relationships with stakeholders: The organization must manage relationships with stakeholders (customers, suppliers, etc.) to create value for all.

Our Approach to

45001

In the first phase, GERICO conducts an analysis of the context, and the definition of the scope of the Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) based on the client’s specific situation. This includes identifying internal and external factors (such as external suppliers, the legislative framework, customers, and shareholders) that influence the OHSMS activities.

The analysis provides a deeper understanding of the client’s operational environment, highlighting the needs and expectations of stakeholders and determining the scope of the ISO 45001 Management System.

The scope (which will be indicated on the certificate) will be agreed upon with the client.

At the end of this phase, the operational context and scope will be formalized, specifying the following:

  • The scope of the Management System.
  • Internal and external elements influence the achievement of the ISO 45001 system objectives.
  • All stakeholders directly or indirectly influence the system and their related requirements (needs, expectations, etc.).
  • Potential benefits and risks arising from stakeholders that may impact the system.
  • Activities, functions, services, products, partnerships, and relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Applicable legal and regulatory requirements.

Then, the documentation for the Management System will be developed as follows:

  • The documented information required by this international standard.
  • The documented information that the organization deems it necessary for the effectiveness of the occupational health and safety management system of the organization

Based on the context, GERICO will develop the documentation to establish a system compliant with the requirements of the UNI EN ISO 45001:2018 standard.

The documentation framework will be developed with the highest efficiency and effectiveness for the organization, limiting it to only what is strictly necessary and in the most suitable format (e.g., KPIs, supplier qualifications, etc.), and will include:

  • Procedures and policies
  • Risk analysis
  • Effectiveness Measurements
  • Management review.

GERICO will guide the organization in planning and executing internal audits at regular intervals to ensure that control objectives, controls, processes, and procedures are compliant with the reference standards and current regulations.

This analysis will be carried out following the structure defined by ISO 19011:2011, providing a set of evidence to support the findings of compliance or non-compliance.

GERICO’s project team will also assist the client throughout the process and during ISO 45001 third-party certification and will manage communication with the certification body if required.
